Stephanie, Mitch and Sophie after our first Evensong of the Autumn

The choir came back with a bang this term – our first Evensong of the Autumn featuring Balfour Gardiner’s Evening Hymn and the trailblazing Stanford in Bb; the first (and we think one of the best!) settings of the evening canticles written by the composer in 1879, which swept away all that Victorian stuffiness and heralded a new era of Anglican choral music. We caught up with our new recruits after the service.Stephanie Wake-Edwards has joined as a soprano on the Cantoris side (the left hand side as you look towards the altar). Steph’s family has a long association with Christ Church – her grandparents and great grandparents were married here. Stephanie lives in Palmers Green and is currently taking a year out after completing her A Levels. Next year she hopes to read Opera Studies at University. Mitch Lloyd has just moved to the area from Bristol where he was an undergraduate, although he originally hails from Manchester. Mitch has joined our bass section and will also be singing from the Cantoris stalls. Mitch is studying for a PGCE and hopes to become a maths teacher. We also welcome back Sophie Hammer who joined the choir last year as a soprano on the Decani stalls. Sophie and Mitch have been awarded choral scholarships this year. Sophie, Mitch and Steph will be singing with the rest of the choir for our Choral Eucharist and Choral Evensong services each Sunday.
